With a remarkable track record of hits across genres, Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films is back with a new romantic comedy, Bhool Chuk Maaf. The trailer for the film was launched on Thursday in Mumbai, where producer Dinesh Vijan opened up about the heart behind the film and the philosophy that drives Maddock’s creative journey.
“This is the kind of film that laid the foundation stone of Maddock,” said Vijan, reminiscing about the production house's roots. “Films like Hindi Medium, Bala, Luka Chuppi, Mimi—these are the stories that audiences have loved the most. They’re stories of the common man, and that’s the soul of our cinema.”
Vijan spoke passionately about how stories with moral takeaways have always stuck with him. “When Karan [Sharma] narrated this story to me, I was instantly reminded of the tales my grandmother used to tell me in childhood—stories with meaning, with heart,” he said. “There’s a very beautiful and entertaining message in this film that’s not even revealed in the trailer. That’s the real takeaway.”
He emphasized Maddock’s commitment to creating cinema that’s both heartfelt and grounded. “We like to make these kinds of stories, and we love watching them too. Yes, films like Stree and Chhava have worked well, but this is our foundation. This is who we are.”
As a father of two young children, Vijan shared that he now chooses stories with more awareness. “I have a boy and a girl, both three and a half years old. I want to make films they’ll grow up and feel proud of. This isn’t planned—it’s just coming to me naturally now.”
Directed by Karan Sharma, Bhool Chuk Maaf stars Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead roles and is set to hit cinemas on May 9, 2025.
